Storytelling elements that used to characterize art house, independent, and “out there” films have been on the rise for years. Nowadays, they often incorporate multiverse theory, forms of astral travel, dreams, and other “metaphysical” and “spiritual” aspects. As movies like “Everything, Everywhere, All At Once” gain in popularity and praise, it seems that these trends are becoming mainstream, and may, eventually, form their own genre. On the other hand, seeing as how characters are also represented as archetypes in this category of media, perhaps we are, essentially, going back to the basics of storytelling.
